Move two-step verification to a new phone, or turn it off

Set up your authenticator on a new phone, or switch two-step verification off, using a code from your current app.

Getting a new phone? Move two-step verification to it before you wipe the old one. You can also turn it off, though your password alone then gets into your account.

Steps

  1. Go to Security. From the menu, choose the gear icon (Settings), then next to Security choose Manage.
  2. Under Two-step verification, choose Turn off or move.
  3. Enter the Current code from your app, using the app on your old phone.
  4. Then choose one:
    • Set up on a new device: scan the new QR code with the app on your new phone, enter its code and choose Verify and turn on. Save the new recovery codes it shows.
    • Turn off two-step verification: signing in goes back to just your password.

Good to know

  • Either way, the codes in your old app stop working.
  • When you turn it off, we email you to confirm.
  • Both options need a current code from the app. If you've lost the old phone, you can still sign in with a recovery code, but contact support from the email on your account to move or remove it.
  • If your Security page says this browser is remembered, choose Ask for a code here again to make it ask for a code at your next sign-in.
